The parking structure garage provides much needed parking for the City Center and for the City of Saratoga Springs. With this additional parking, the City Center will be able to hold larger events and continue to be a major economic supporter of the city.
Careful consideration was put into the placement of the garage on this site. Locals expressed concern about neighborhood character, so designing the structure to fluidly blend into community life, with strong pedestrian access was a high priority. The scale and the height of the parking structure is in line with surrounding buildings and it’s “brownstone” sections of the structure use tan brick with dark brown recesses to speak to the colors, shapes and rhythms of the nearby condominiums and town houses. Unlike a typical parking garage that is built as a large mass, this structure is broken down into different, smaller scale portions situated nicely into the fabric of its surroundings.
The structure, including a pedestrian bridge, is part of the Saratoga Greenbelt Downtown Connector. The bridge is simple and transparent in design, creating an undemanding feel over Maple Avenue attaching lightly to the City Center. The garage is a projected winter home to the community farmer’s market, as well as other public events and canopies are designed to protect pedestrians at the marketplace along the green belt trail. The parking structure also includes accessible sites for ride-sharing and a CDTA stop.
