Saratoga Preservation Recognition Award for New Context Design
The cornerstone of Empire State College’s program for on-line education is the International Center for Educational Technology and Distance Learning, a state-of-the-art training and production facility, in the heart of the Saratoga Springs historic district.
Equipped with computer programming, video / cctv production studios, and computer graphic production facilities, the new building will allow faculty and technical staff to create and distribute course materials for asynchronous distance learning.
Three unique spaces accommodate a variety of meeting sizes for distance learning, teleconferencing and computer demonstration and training. The first floor multi-use reception and training room seats 85 lecture style; with tables and chairs stored in the room, and underfloor computer and electrical wiring, a variety of conference style seating arrangements can also be achieved.
The exterior massing and details of the three story, 18,000 sf building were carefully designed to respect the historic character of Union Avenue, and to complement the college’s own historic building at One Union Avenue.
