The Parking Structure for the Albany Medical Center was designed as parking at grade with six structured levels, providing 1270 spaces. This economical structure also provided a pedestrian bridge over New Scotland Avenue with an interior connecting pathway to the Hospital’s Building M Lobby. The pathway was designed to display the Hospital’s “Wall of History”. Subsequently, ENVISION was retained to renovate the main lobby and restore the historic, original Hospital Entry Portico at Building M.
The parking structure is conventional precast concrete construction. However, the deep foundation system was unique, consisting of four foot diameter drilled, reinforced caissons extending through an average of 140 feet of clay overburden and socketed into bedrock at that depth.
